This morning I had every intention of making the Sunday morning devotional service, but alas, it did not materialize. My body had its own idea of getting in a little extra rest, so I never made it to the Baha'i Unity Center in Greenville.
Since this was my cue to have a leisurely day, I decided to check my emails after having a wonderful olive oil based pan-fried soft tortilla stuffed with slightly stir-fried fresh brocchili spears topped with jalapena-spiked cheese chunks and a spicy dressing sauce. Umm...that was good!
In my email, I found this wonderful story of a mother who discovered shea butter while looking for a natural remedy to treat her sons' eczema skin conditions. The doctor had recommended steroids, but the mother was determined to find a better way. Here's an excerpt from the article:
Kalle knew shea butter from her childhood. Her mother had treated her children's stuffy noses by rubbing their faces with shea butter and menthol, a common remedy in Mali, where her mother was raised. Since then, shea butter has become widely used for its intense moisturizing and healing properties.
As I read the shea butter story found here, I saw a lot of similiarities to the way I got started using shea. Trying to find a way to manage my natural African-American hair style was what led me to shea, and to the recent opening of my online store two years later (just a few days ago!).
As I continue to follow shea, and note how it is impacting the all-natural skin care market, I always smile when I see yet another commercial where the major cosmetic players finally come around to adding shea butter to their cosmetic ingredients. Just the other day, I saw a commercial where Jergen's was promoting shea butter in one of its products.
Regrettably, some of these cosmetic giants really miss the mark when they dilute and refine shea butter, which in effect causes it to lose most of its protection and healing properties. To get those kinds of benefits from shea, you will need to use the pure, unrefined medicinal grade shea like the ones offered at the Shea Butter Mall.
Loving the skin I'm in,
Lo
